Air Jordan VI[]
Design story[]
Inspiration for the The Air Jordan VI’s design came from Michael Jordan’s slant nosed Porsche 911 Turbo and featured various design innovations. The influence can be seen in the fact that the shoe lacked a tip, or extra piece of material around the toe for durability. The clean toe look would become a staple of the line and basketball shoes in general. The large molded heel tab also mimicked the immense spoiler seen on the Porsche.
Other innovative features were the rubber tongue with finger holes which worked in conjunction with the large molded heel tab to make it easier for MJ to put the shoe on. Another design feature that would debut on the Air Jordan VI and would continue to be used in the Air Jordan line was the inner bootie sleeve which enhanced comfort and fit.
The Air Jordan VI carried over various design elements from its predecessor, such as the translucent sole, the visible Air-Sole unit, lace locks, and the use of 3M material which could be seen underneath the perforations on the shoe’s upper.
